WEB 20 RESOURCES SHARED FOR ESL TEACHERS

Here are some web resource divided according to the skill improved.
Spelling and pronuntiation
  1. Leap: This site has several helpful pages; this one in particular gives a great overview of pronunciation rules for different letter combinations in English.
  2. Funbrain: This site has a lot of games for kids to learn all kinds of subjects, but ESL students can use it to make their reading lessons more fun. Play the reading games or the Spell Check quiz to practice your spelling.

Vocabulary and Writing
  1. Flash Card Exchange: This browser-based tool lets you study thousands of words, create your own flash cards, and sort cards based on category and learner language.
  2. 20-Minute ESL Lessons: These audio lessons cover basic vocabulary for a variety of everyday situations, including office life.

There are plenty of useful web resources that can be implemented in our English classes. The higher the level, the more engaging the activities may be. Among my top 5 favourites for high-intermediate Secondary students are:
  • www.usingenglish.com: dictionary of idioms. There are hundreds of idioms listed on this site as well as phrasal verbs and other grammatical irregularities students may need help with.
  • http://www.dualtexts.com/: a bilingual magazine for advanced learners of English. This website offers parallel texts with integrated dictionary, grammar and audios.
  • www.breakingnewsenglish.com: perfect for bringing fresh, current events into your classroom activities. Here, you’ll find whole lesson plans with vocabulary, discussion questions and more on current event news articles. You can also find listening (various speeds and accents), vocabulary and spelling quizzes. It’s all for intermediate/high-intermediate learners, but texts can be edited and simplified for lower levels.
  • https://www.youtube.com/user/bbclearningenglish: BBC Learning English’s Channel provides new videos every day covering areas such as grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and Business English. Besides, students may follow “The Flatmates,” a soap opera made for learning English, or learn about different idioms.

These days I have learned about two interesting tools. I´m not very expert still (I have to improve) but I think they are useful for primary children:
  • Live Worksheet: to obtain and make interactive worksheets with a free easy-to-use tool. Worksheets that listen, speak, correct themselves and save paper, ink and time. http://www.liveworksheets.com/
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here you can find free educational interactive teaching resources and activities for Primary/Elementary School; funny kids games and activities; and several links.

This website has free online resources to teach children to read. There are some nice games too. For little children.

My contribution to the long list of resources is http://learningenglish.voanews.com/.  Hope you’ll find it useful!

I´m Almudena and I would like to share you some online resources with which I work normally in primary.

These resources allow you to work in diferent areas from the games, allowing the development of your imagination and creativity. Present different levels of work.
They are fun and students enjoy learning.
I hope you find them interesting, althougn I know they are very conmonly used.

One of the websites I use a lot is www.busyteacher.com. I offers a great deal of worksheets on vocabulary, grammar, listening and speaking.

An English resource I know and doesn´t appear in the course is

And http://www.discoveryeducation.com/, it has a Puzzlemaker , I use it for getting new vocabulary.
